Dean Williams has played a pivotal role in the global climate research community, significantly contributing to the field through his work at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). Leading many international scientists, his efforts have been instrumental in coordinating and standardizing climate data worldwide, culminating in the creation of essential tools and frameworks that underpin modern climate science. Williams' contributions were key to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and former Vice President Al Gore winning the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change and to lay the foundations for the measures needed to counteract such change.
Williams' first major contribution to the field was the development of the Climate Data Analysis Tool (CDAT), an open-source analysis and visualization software package that allows researchers to simultaneously look at multiple climate models and compare observed results. This innovation greatly enhanced the ability of scientists to understand and analyze complex climate data. Following this, he developed the Earth System Grid, which standardizes how data is collected and provides a common framework for the world’s climate modeling centers. This groundbreaking system has fundamentally changed the way climate scientists operate globally, enabling more accurate and cohesive climate research.
Growing up in South Central Los Angeles, Williams knew from an early age that he wanted to pursue a career in mathematics. He excelled in his studies, earning a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics and statistics, followed by a master’s degree in computer science from California State University, Chico. His passion for mathematics and dedication to his field led him to join the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he has since made significant contributions to climate science. Beyond his professional achievements, Williams also finds time to give back to his community by coaching high school track, demonstrating his commitment to mentoring and developing the next generation.

Estate Parity is a non-profit 501 (c) (3). The organization was founded in June 2024 to solve a very specific problem. Simply put, a lot more Black people need to have estate plans! The wealth gap in America between Black and White individuals has widened in recent years, according to the Brookings Institution. Currently, Black individuals have only 23 cents for every dollar of a White person. In actual dollars, this translates to a net worth of $44,890 compared to $285,000 for a White person. The founders of Estate Parity realized that the lack of estate planning, specifically not having a Revocable Living Trust, is a significant factor in creating these wealth disparities. Generational wealth is lost due to unnecessary probate. Our goal is to have Black individuals utilizing Revocable Living Trusts at the same rate as White individuals.
We partner with a variety of trusted organizations and businesses who provide the resources to offer estate planning to Black individuals at little to no cost.
Estate Parity is a nonprofit organization with a big vision. Through effective messaging and with the support of committed partners, we will strive to achieve Estate Planning for African Americans at levels that are at least at par with other groups.
If you're an individual, please educate yourself on the Importance of a Living Trust as opposed to just having a Will. Don't just stop there, educate and motivate others in the community to create a Living Trust. Also, feel free to contact us regarding referral services and other resources that we
will be providing SOON.
Estate Parity will offer referral services to qualified Estate Planning Professionals at low to no cost. Educational materials and workshops will also be available.
